The Best Canadian Bank! Spoiler: No Bank Fees

You’re paying bank fees and I’m not.

You might say: Well I like going to the teller and having that face-to-face. (Like my friend Al)

Or you might say: I never use the face-to-face service, I do everything online. (Like me!)

If you do all your banking online, then you shouldn’t be paying bank fees.

With today being more and more online, it’s only natural that banking is now online as well. If you’re paying for a service that you’re not using, like face-to-face tellers. Then you should stop paying for this right away. It’s like paying for a gym membership and you never go.

There are two banks that I’ve used that are no fee banks and below you’ll find why I’m with one and not the other.

PC Financials – Changed to Simplii

Back in the day, when I was still in high school, I opened a PC Financials bank account. No fees, everything online, while still being able to use the bank machines at Loblaws and CIBC. They also had a PC Points Program that let you accumulate a percentage of points to put towards food. Pretty sweet, right?

Well, when I was in my Twenties I decided to travel a bit. That’s where I had trouble with this bank. It would always get flagged even when I notified PC Financials of my travels. It was annoying! So I started to research other banks and found ING Direct (now Tangerine) I love this bank!

Simplii still has no bank fees but does now have withdrawal fees which I’m not too keen on seeing. They’ll be discontinuing the PC Points Program Percentage attached to your purchases. So in the end, everyone will be on the same PC Points Program, where you get weekly targeted items and in-store specials.

Tangerine – The Best Bank I Recommend

With Tangerine, I still have no bank fees, no problems traveling and I’m earning cash back on my credit card, while still in the PC Points Program. I do get fewer points from the PCPP but I receive cash back which goes directly into my savings. Tangerine is partnered with Scotiabank and I can use any Scotiabank machine to access my account. They have a referral program if you’re interested in switching to Tangerine where you’ll receive 25$ and I’ll receive 25$ when you use my Orange Key 39774923S1. If you switch when there’s a promo it can be 50$!

Current Promo (Ends January 31st, 2018)

If you open a Tangerine bank account with my Orange Key 39774923S1 we’ll both get 50$! All you have to do is make sure to use 39774923S1 and make an initial deposit of 100$ or more. This is what I did when I first opened my account, my friend Cindy got her 50$ and I did as well.

If you’re trying to cut costs in your budget, this is a fee that you don’t need in your life. Especially if you’re already doing all your banking online and don’t depend on face-to-face service.

Let me know in the comments if you have questions or if you do pay bank fees and are ok with it and how much your bank fees are.
